Ask & Learn聞問(wèn)切英語(yǔ)口語(yǔ):Any more / Anymore
上星期三討論過(guò) every day 和 everyday 的分別后,想起早前讀者 Michelle 也寄電郵問(wèn) can't agree any more 和 can't agree anymore 是否相同?
習(xí)慣上,any more 和 anymore 已經(jīng)通用,但嚴(yán)格來(lái)說(shuō),它們是有分別的。
如果把這兩個(gè)字寫成一個(gè),anymore 的意思是 no longer,也就是不再,或者是到了頂點(diǎn)。放在上句,can't agree anymore 就是完全同意、毫無(wú)異議的意思。
把兩個(gè)字分開寫成 any more 的時(shí)候,more 變成是 many 或 much 的比較級(jí)(comparative degree),放在形容詞和副詞前面,可以強(qiáng)化該形容詞和副詞:
I used to have only a few friends, and now I have more.
If you think this watch is too cheap, I can show you a more expensive one.
Since the manager spoke to her last week, the secretary has been coming to the office more punctually.
在這種情況下, any more 其實(shí)是more 或 some more 的否定語(yǔ)。 例如:新年將至,商店里的紅包袋都派完了,店員只好對(duì)遲來(lái)的顧客說(shuō):
Sorry, we have given them all out. We do not have any more.
這里的 any more,絕對(duì)不能寫成 anymore。
