上次提到 "In some way, he is a nice person, but in other ways, he is not." 一句沒(méi)有問(wèn)題，但 "On the one hand, he is a nice person, but on the other hand, he is not." 一句矛盾，令人摸不著頭腦?？梢?jiàn) on the one hand ... on the other hand 這句型雖然是用來(lái)表達(dá)對(duì)比（contrast），卻不可把兩個(gè)截然相反（contradictory）的意思寫上去。因此，雖然剛才那一句不成立，下面一句卻沒(méi)有問(wèn)題：

On the one hand, he is a nice person, but on the other hand, he is a bit naive.

另外，下面幾句表達(dá)的是對(duì)照，而不是相反的意思：

On the one hand, John is very talkative, but on the other hand, his friends seem to like him for it.

On the one hand, it is unbearably hot in summer in Hong Kong, but on the other hand, it is nice that winter is short here.

讀者 Pico 見(jiàn)過(guò)有人在 on the other hand 的 hand 后加 s，這是錯(cuò)誤的。
