讀者 Eric 在報紙上看到下面一句：
Japan and China were not agreed that the Diaoyu Islands question be shelved in their talks.
Eric 問，"were not agreed" 是被動式還是一個作形容詞用的過去分詞？又問 "were not agreed" 可否改成 "have not agreed"？
"Were not agreed" 并不是被動式。被動式的動詞必定是及物動詞（transitive verb），agree 是非及物動詞，并無被動式可言。
"Were not agreed" 句型屬于 Eric 提出的另一種用法，即用作形容詞的過去分詞。我們平常聽到的 "I am pleased"、"He is interested"、"The horse is tired" 等都是這種用法。
翻譯出來，"were not agreed" 指兩者意見不一致。意思與 "have not agreed" 并沒有兩樣。然而我們需要考慮時態(tài)。原本的句子是 "were not agreed"，所以代入時也應用同樣的時態(tài)，應改用 "did not agree"。
句子中的 "shelved" 令我想起另一個英文字，下次探討。
